Q: How much do riding lessons cost?
A: We offer a Basic Horsemanship series for $100.00 that consists of three sessions. In these sessions you will learn how to lead, groom, and tack up a horse. You will also have saddle time during each session where you will learn the basics of balance and control. After that, private lesson packages of four lessons can be purchased for $100.00, or individual lessons for $25.00 each. If you have a riding partner or buddy, group lessons with a mnimum of two riders can be arranged at a reduced cost.
Q: How long will my lesson last? A: Each session lasts
approximately one hour. Plan on spending another 20 to 30 minutes
grooming, tacking up, and un-tacking the horse.
Q: Can I use my horse to take lessons? A: Yes, we encourage riders to use their own horses whenever possible. We will need a copy of the Coggins test dated within the last 12 months.
Q: Can I board my horse at Honey Ridge Farm? A: Yes, we can take a limited number of boarders.
Q: What should I wear for my lesson?
A: For your safety and comfort, we require the following:
Riding helmets are required for all riders under 18 and recommended for everyone.
We have approved riding helmets that you may use or you can bring your own. Please do not go buy one for your first series of
lessons. Also, we are able to purchase helmets at a significant
discount, and would be happy to get you one at below retail.
Smooth-soled boots or riding shoes with a 1-inch heel
– no athletic or tennis shoes. Smooth soles are necessary so your
foot can slide easily out of the stirrup. A 1-inch heel is
required so your foot does not slide forward and completely through the
stirrup.
Long pants and a tucked in shirt.
Long pants will help keep your legs from rubbing and getting sore, and
a tucked in shirt will help keep you from getting hung on the saddle,
fence post, tree branch etc.
Other Recommendations:
Dress weather-appropriate and in layers that you can take off.
Many beginners are unaware of how much of a workout riding can
be. Sun glasses, sun screen, and leather gloves are recommended,
as well as a open mind and commitment to have some fun.
